I will start by stating that at present I’m nowhere even close to buying a house for myself neither budgetary nor geographically. Many years ago after moving out of my town Ohio to San Francisco and before that New York, I had accepted the fact that I would never be able to have a house of my own as both cities asked for really high mortgage prices which started from five hundred thousand dollars and more.
That didn’t stop me from chasing my dreams. Because I’m the sort of person who is totally crazy, passionate and creative about buying and redoing the home I have in my mind and imagination. But I’ll tell you one thing for sure which is that the place I have built in my mind is amazing and beautiful. Big beautiful windows having sunlight entering into every room, a private cozy den for my girlfriend and me to watch football in ,a small desk made out of wood where I can do my readings and a pile of pillows and cushions where I can lay down to relax.
You may wonder, what’s the point of all this? The main point is that many people who are renting houses have dreams just like me to own a house and they are really eager for it. So if you’re not a dreamer like me and want to move the next step, how do you know it’s the right time for you to be buying a house and what should you consider while you’re on it? Well here are some tips that I have gained watching some shows like House Hunters etc. which may be useful for you which should be considered before buying a house.
Calculate A Budget:
Make a budget before buying a house which you will follow and not the one you change like every other day or month. Have this in mind to find the home you “need “and not the largest one. Break this budget down into various parts like Mortgage payment, Taxes, Utility bills, Groceries, Daily needs, Furniture Etc. The cost of things you need will go up as soon as you have your own house so plan forward about the increasing costs and add all things up in your budget.
Make An Emergency Backup Fund:
When you buy your own house, there are dozens of things that you may need that you hadn’t planned for. Mainly it can be on fixing a few things in the house like broken or leaking items or damages caused by the weather. It’s best not to rely on your credit card for such things. So before buying a house you must have extra cash that can aid emergencies like repairing things and especially a pile of money stocked up in case you get jobless for some reason.
Note Down A List Of Important Things:
We all know that that our budget won’t include all things that we want. Prior to looking for a house, make a list of things that are most important for you. Do you like a full house with lots of things or a lot of empty space for you? Do you have time to repair stuff if it gets damaged? How far can you travel to work daily? Do you prefer living inside or out of the city? Do you buy the things on your own will or just because everyone else says you have to have it? Be true to yourself while making this list. It’s the only way you will be sure to get a home that will make you happy and satisfied.
Do A Search:
After making a list covering everything you need before buying a house, it’s time to go out and search. In what places can you easily find things that you need? You may not find it in the neighborhood you want, I that’s really important to you; you should go through your priority list again and reschedule things. This whole procedure is for you to learn more and you will easily know what’s more important and necessary for you. Be honest with things you need and not want. Initiate by looking for prices of the houses in the neighborhood of your desire and so on.
Take Your Time:
Buying your own house is a huge step and takes a lot of duty. Plus once you’re in it it’s hard to get back again. It may take a long time but a thirty years mortgage as compared to a year or few months is really less. Don’t Rush and find a house you’ll love till the end.
I may not be near to buying my dream home anytime soon but owing a house of your own is a part of every American’s dream. So, before buying a house, if you go through all the necessary steps and are prepared for the worst situations that can happen, you can easily make your dream come true.
